Hi folks!
A new/old song of mine is now on Spotify (and Apple Music, and the other places you can hear songs). It’s called Come Home to Your Body. You can listen to it here.
Recorded and produced at home, using a piano from the late 1800s and my grandfather’s old keyboard, there is a lot that flows through this song, through the generations, and through versions of me. The thread is the hope for wholeness and healing for all who may have disconnected from their own bodies, dreams and desires. It’s okay to come home. I originally shared a version of this 2 years ago — if you’d like to learn more about the influences, writers and experiences that brought me to this, that original story is here.
I made the album art with cardboard, boxcutters and shadows and light (a little behind-the-scenes video here, on Instagram).
In general in my life, I’m working on “integrating” the different aspects of myself a more holistically. That all parts of me — belong together. While this is primarily an “offline” journey, but there are also a few ways this gets to show up online:
A name change for this publication
Originally called “Healing Journey,” this Substack publication has been centered on themes of spiritual and emotional excavation, explored through music. That is still important to me, and, it has become more important to widen the lens: I am about more than one topic, on project. I bring silliness and sincerity, humour and healing, creativity and consciousness. To allow space for this wideness and wildness, the new name for this publication is straightforward: Kevan Gilbert Notes. Music and musings from me to you, expansively covering any and all categories.
Elsewhere
I’m also sharing more regularly on Instagram and on YouTube, if you’d like to follow along. (Currently having a lot of fun creating songs with SunoAI, and exploring the possibilities through different genres and combinations — it’s been a blast. I’ve also been combing through my archives, and sharing old gems, like this Feist & Sufjan Stevens mash-up)
Pausing paid subscriptions
I’ve paused paid subscriptions for now; this publication is currently no-charge while I renovate. (Thank you so much to those who funded early efforts!! It’s how I paid for piano movers to acquire the beastly piano on which Come Home To Your Body and I’m Allowed To were recorded)
